My friend, Mike Jacobs

First of all, Mike Jacobs and I have been friends since grade school. My bias is well known and obvious. I'm not hiding from anything.

While many people try to write Mike off as a product of "nepotism," they do so at their own peril. Mike is a brilliant, articulate and charismatic man. And, he raises the money. He is a great candidate for office and a great state senator.

Mike has been criticized for previous statements, however, this plays well with our base and the average joe. I'd rather have a state senator who would kick the governor's tail end, than a state senator who would prefer to sit down and have a "splendid conversation about policies affecting our state." We want an ass kicker, not an ass kisser. That's why I like Mike. He's been like that since we were young and he'll be like that till he dies.

Mike is one guy who we will be able to count on to slam Bobby Schilling for lowering taxes on the rich, not rescinding oil subsidies and for voting to repeal the new health care law -- which by the way ensured more than 30 million people and lowered the deficit.

He is neck and neck with Phil Hare for my favored candidate. I like that Mike is much younger than Phil and would be a local leader for the next decade or so.

The negative side to Mike is that he is more of a moderate -- which may be something that helps us rather than hurts us. I am a stickler for progressives, but since I've known Mike and because of his personality he is my number 1 tied with Phil.

Democrats for a real change

Writing this makes me pissed off.

I can't believe that we have this congressman. Did our district go crazy? We lost over 75,000 people. Did all the democrats leave?

How in the hell did we lose this district? WE have to take it back. This is our district. It belongs to us and we're coming for Bobby Schilling!

We have just one endorsement for 2012...anyone but Bobby! We are going to be following the top candidates for the 17th district congressional seat.

Right now we have excellent candidate and below are our preferences:

1. Phil Hare---he did a great job representing us, has the most experience and is a lockstep vote with work class people.
2. Mark Schwiebert----was an excellent mayor and did wonders for the city of Rock Island. He won all of his elections in landslides and will fight until the end.
3. Mike Jacobs----Who doesn't love Mike? He's got a great personality and has gotten a lot done for Rock Island county. He also has a lot of experience. The only thing going against him could be charges of nepotism, but with Schilling's son running his campaign, I don't forsee that as a problem.
4. John Sullivan---not from RICO. He's from the mod-squad so he will easily avoid charges of extremism. Nice guy, very charismatic.
5. Mike Boland---the only guy that I don't really care for at all. He actually told the QCTimes that he wanted to run, but that if Phil Hare got into the race that he wouldn't run any more. What kind of leadership is that? Either way he's better than Schilling.

We will keep watch and keep readers updated about this race.
